Dr. Gertzbein is a board-certified internationally respected orthopedic
surgeon with over 33 years of clinical experience as a spine specialist,
treating common & complex spinal disorders.

Dr. Gertzbein is a board-certified internationally respected orthopedic
surgeon with over 33 years of clinical experience as a spine specialist,
treating common and complex spinal disorders. He received his medical
degree and orthopedic training at the University of Toronto in Canada, and
subsequently trained in London, England and Hong Kong. Prior to last
position as Full Professor on the Faculty of Baylor College of Medicine, he
held the rank of Full Professor at the University of Toronto where he was the
Director of the Spine Trauma Unit, the largest in Canada. As well, he taught at
the University of Texas Medical Center, where was voted the best teacher by
the orthopedic residents.

Dr. Gertzbein has published over 50 peer-reviewed articles in scientific
journals and has authored chapters in 27 textbooks as well as writing a
textbook on spinal fractures. He has lectured extensively including more than
300 presentations, many as a visiting professor at colleges, universities and
orthopedic societies throughout the world.

Dr. Gertzbein has been involved in research throughout his career both in
basic science & clinical studies. He has developed a spinal instrumentation
device for use in anterior spinal surgeries & holds several patents related to
spinal devices.

He has held national and international appointments on the Executive
Boards of the International Society for Study of the Lumbar Spine, the North
American Spine Society and the Scoliosis Research Society. He currently
serves on the editorial boards of the journals Spine and The Spine Journal.

Dr. Gertzbein has traveled to third world countries providing humanitarian aid,
rendering medical care to the injured including the war-torn regions of
Croatia. He recently appeared on the premiere program of Stephen
Spielberg's ABC series "Miracle Workers".
